Division of Epidemiology, Services and Prevention Research (DESPR)

Transdisciplinary Research Workgroup

Mission Statement

The mission of the Transdisciplinary Research Workgroup is to encourage the integration of basic genetic, neurobiological, and psychosocial science findings, methodologies, and theories directly into drug abuse etiology, prevention, and health services studies. Much existing basic research has not been fully utilized for the purposes of developing, testing, and refining drug abuse prevention interventions and services research or for explicating developmental trajectories for drug use/addiction over time. Merging existing and emerging scientific insights and technologies gleaned from the basic sciences with approaches from the behavioral and social sciences offers the promise of further advancing the public health mission of DESPR.
